Game update and Chris Tillman on today's start (Orioles win 11-10 in 10 innings)

Score: Orioles 11, Yankees 10

Recap: Chris Tillman worked four innings plus one batter and allowed five runs and six hits. He walked three, struck out four and hit a batter. Tillman walked two batters in the second and Chris Denorfia made him pay with a three-run homer. Mark Trumbo hit his fifth home run, Caleb Joseph hit his first, J.J. Hardy belted his second in two days and Manny Machado launched his third. Machado's solo shot tied the game in the seventh. Zach Phillips, in his return to the Orioles, got a double play and fly ball after replacing Tillman. Bundy retired the side in order in the sixth, but he allowed two runs in the seventh. Pedro Beato gave up the go-ahead run in the eighth. Oliver Drake pitched a scoreless ninth. Nolan Reimold hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth and tie the game. Ryan Flaherty and Xavier Avery walked with one out, but the Orioles couldn't score them. Right-hander Stefan Crichton, who was brought over from minor league camp, gave up a leadoff double, an RBI single and two more singles to start the 10th as the Yankees regained the lead and loaded the bases. Crichton then got a double play and a groundout to short, but the Yankees got another run. A couple of New York fielding blunders and a walk loaded the bases for the Orioles to start the bottom of the 10th. Reimold then hit an RBI single to center field and kept the bases loaded. Garabez Rosa hit a two-run walk-off single to center for the win.

Need to know: Tillman threw 75 pitches, 50 for strikes. He broke the streak of Orioles starters surrendering first-inning home runs in three straight games. Tillman has a 9.31 ERA in three starts covering 9 2/3 innings. Trumbo threw out Chase Headley going from first to third on a single. Pedro Alvarez walked, stole a base and scored the tie-breaking run in the fifth inning on an error. He also walked in the seventh. Hardy committed a throwing error in the fifth. Today's attendance: 8,350, the ninth sellout of the spring. The Orioles are now 7-14-4. They hit five home runs, but didn't need any to win it in the 10th.

SARASOTA, Fla. - The ball is flying out of Ed Smith Stadium today, with the Orioles collecting four home runs and momentarily tying the game 7-7.

Pedro Beato gave up a run in the eighth on a walk, single and Ben Gamel's RBI grounder.

Mark Trumbo, Caleb Joseph and J.J. Hardy homered within the first four innings, and Manny Machado's solo shot with one out in the seventh knotted the score.

Dylan Bundy allowed two runs and four hits in the top of the seventh, as the Yankees briefly took a 7-6 lead. Bundy retired the Yankees in order in the sixth.

Chris Tillman increased his pitch count to 78 and took the high road, refusing to critique home plate umpire Clint Fagan's strike zone. It really came under scrutiny in the second inning, when Tillman issued two of his three walks and Chris Denorfia launched a three-run homer.

"It's not my job to call balls and strikes," Tillman said, smiling. "I'm going out there throwing strikes and doing what I can to get these guys out. I thought I made some pretty good pitches."

Tillman was charged with five runs and six hits in four-plus innings. He struck out four and hit a batter.

"I made my pitches throughout," said Tillman, who's spring ERA is 9.31 in 9 2/3 innings. "I made a lot of really good pitches with all of them. I was pretty happy with it.

"I didn't think there were very many bad pitches. There were a lot of good pitches. They made good contact I think twice all day, so I wasn't unhappy with it by any means."

Most important to Tillman is how he's feeling after his third Grapefruit League start.

"Physically I felt good," he said. "I probably could have kept going, but there's no reason to at this point. We got done what we needed to, got up and down four or five times and came pretty close to the pitch count. I walk away from it pretty happy."

He also leaves with no decision as the Orioles continue to mash.

"We've been talking about this for a while now," Tillman said. "It's fun to watch these guys go up and hit the ball around the park. It's like one through nine right now and it's fun to watch."
