Gonzalez and Miley in southpaw battle (Nats walk off again 1-0 for 10th win in row)

The Nationals seek their first 10-game win streak since June 12, 2005, as they wrap up their four-game set against the Diamondbacks today.

A pair of lefties in Gio Gonzalez and Wade Miley tangle on Ian Desmond bobblehead day. Gonzalez is seeking his first win since July 5. He is 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA in two starts lifetime versus the D-Backs.

Gonzalez was able to go three up and three down to start the game.

Miley allowed a base hit to Denard Span to open the bottom of the first. One out later, he walked Jayson Werth.

An Adam LaRoche grounder towards second forced Werth at second and LaRoche was called safe at first. Arizona manager Krik Gibson asked for a review. The call was overturned. LaRoche was ruled out at first. Time of review was two minutes.

No score through one in D.C.

Update: The Nationals got a wonderful chance to break the ice (in the rain, sorry) in the fifth with the bases loaded and two away. Adam LaRoche worked the count full before Miley through an 87 mph breaking ball low in the zone to strike him out and end the threat.

No score through five at Nationals Park.

Update II: Gonzalez managed seven innings, allowing no runs on only four hits, with three walks and six strikeouts. He threw 97 pitches, 60 for strikes. It marks the first time in past five starts he has finished at least seven innings (July 26 at Cincinnati). It was also the first time he had pitched that many innings in a game at home since he worked eight innings in a 13-0 win over the Cubs on July 5.

Update III: Almost unsurprisingly, the Nationals win in walk-off fashion, 1-0 over the Diamondbacks. In the bottom of the ninth with one out, Span singled and stole second. Rendon grounded to third baseman Jordan Pacheco, whose throw sailed toward the Nationals dugout, allowing Span to score the winning run.

The Nationals have a 10-game win streak for the first time since June 2005. It's their 14th shutout of the season.
