The Nationals' top prospect, left fielder Bryce Harper, contributed in a big way as the Scottsdale Scorpions ralled to beat the Mesa Solar Sox 4-3 in the Arizona Fall League Monday night.
Harper had a single for his first hit in the fall and added an RBI groundout. He showed off his speed with a pair of stolen bases. Harper's batting average is now 1-for-16 (.063).
Zach Walters went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter. Derek Norris had the night off.
Harper flew out and grounded out in his first two at-bats. In the fourth, his grounder to second base scored Will Middlebrooks and made the score 3-3.
He singled to right field in the sixth and stole second but was left on second base. The hit ended an 0-for-15 start to faIl play.
In the eighth, Harper was intentionally walked and again stole second base.
Scottsdale is at Mesa Tuesday afternoon (3:35 p.m. Eastern). With the victory Monday, the Scorpions are above .500 for the first time this season at 3-2.
Patrick Lehman did not pitch and we have yet to see Rafael Martin get into a game.
Sammy Solis is likely to make his second start of the fall campaign on Wednesday.
