It's official: Tyler Moore to start in left field Monday night for Syracuse (updated)

As first reported on MASNSports.com on Saturday, the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs will start Tyler Moore in left field Monday night against the Pawtucket Red Sox. It will be Moore's first start in the outfield. Appearing on Sports Radio 106.7 The Fan's "Nats Insider" Sunday night, Chiefs manager Tony Beasley confirmed that Moore would start in left field Monday. Veteran Mark Teahan is expected to move to first base for the first game against Pawtucket. "Starting (Monday), he's is going to play at least one out of three days in left field," Beasley said. "He has been out there working and getting some instruction." Moore has played first base exclusively within the Nationals organization. He has shown tremendous offensive potential, slamming 67 home runs since 2010. Moore has worked on getting some reps in the outfield since being introduced to the new position in instructional league last October. Nationals outfield coordinator Tony Tarasco has been in Syracuse and has worked with Moore for some time on the position change. Hitting coach Troy Gingrich, who also played outfield, worked with Moore on Sunday. "He was working on getting some balls off the bat (Sunday), just getting a little more acclimated out there. (Monday) will be his first game out there," Beasley said. This is not a permanent position change, but the Nationals are intrigued with seeing how Moore looks in left field. Like Michael Morse, if Moore can prove to be adept at playing the infield and outfield, he could become the complete versatile major leaguer the Nationals covet.
