If you were at the July 22 game between the Indians and Orioles, you were lucky enough to hear a pregame concert by singer/songwriter Jenae Cherry, a Nashville-based country music staple who has a strong connection to the Orioles: She's married to reliever Brad Brach.
If you're coming to Friday night's game between the Astros and Orioles, you'll have another opportunity to hear Cherry, who will debut a new Orioles-inspired song, "Don't Miss the Magic," as part of her set during a live performance before the postgame fireworks display.
"Don't Miss the Magic" will be available for free that evening via streaming or download on SoundCloud. The Orioles Charitable Foundation will donate $5 to Shannon's Fund for each stream or download during the first week of availability (through Aug. 26).
Shannon's Fund is an endowment at the University of Maryland Medical Center that was established by the Orioles and OriolesREACH in 2008 in memory of Shannon Obaker, the club's former director of community outreach who passed away in 2007 at 29. Shannon's Fund provides financial support to hospital patients and their families to assist with many expenses associated with the treatment process.
Prior to the start of Friday's game, the Orioles and OriolesREACH are hosting a sold-out fundraiser for Shannon's Fund on the center field Roof Deck. Cherry and several Orioles wives will be in attendance, while country music artist and Virginia native Kevin MaC and Nashville musician Greylan James will each perform at the event. MaC will also perform a set of original songs before Saturday's 7:05 p.m. game versus Houston, as well as the national anthem and "America the Beautiful" during the seventh-inning stretch.
Fans wishing to contribute to Shannon's Fund can donate here, or stream or download "Don't Miss the Magic" on SoundCloud from Aug. 19-26 to generate an automatic $5 donation from the Orioles Charitable Foundation.
