Jones could still earn All-Star bid

When the 2011 All-Star Game rosters were announced yesterday, Adam Jones didn't hear his name called. But that doesn't necessarily mean the Orioles outfielder won't get to take the field July 12 in Arizona for the 82nd annual Midsummer Classic. Jones, who made his All-Star debut in 2009, is among five American League nominees who are up for the All-Star Game Final Vote. The winner will earn the last spot on the AL roster for next Tuesday's game. The 25-year-old Jones has put together an impressive first half of the season, hitting .283 with 13 homers (seven of which came in June), 46 RBIs and six stolen bases through Sunday's action. Jones has also gotten the job done defensively, making a number of sparkling catches (I think we all remember this one) and posting nine outfield assists, tied for third-best in the American League. Jones doesn't have any Red Sox or Yankees in his way as he tries to earn that final AL roster spot - which could certainly be viewed as a positive - but he does have some tough competition. Jones is going up against Royals left fielder Alex Gordon, White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko, Tigers catcher Victor Martinez and Rays second baseman Ben Zobrist. Balloting lasts until 4 p.m. on Thursday, and the winners will be announced shortly thereafter. If you want to vote for the Orioles' center fielder, there are a couple of ways to do so. To vote online, go to http://masn.me/voteAdam, enter some basic information, and you can vote as many times as your heart desires. If you need to step away from your computer and want to put in your vote for Adam via text message, text A2 to 89269. Additionally, the Orioles are teaming up with the Nationals to encourage fans to vote for the "Beltways Ballot", which is a vote for Adam and also for Nationals first baseman Michael Morse, one of the National League nominees. You can help send Morse to Arizona by going to http://masn.me/voteMorse or texting N4 to 89269. As of right now, catcher Matt Wieters is locked in as the Orioles' lone All-Star representative. We'll just have to wait and see if Jones will get to join him.
