SARASOTA, Fla. - Adam Jones won't be here much longer, with his departure approaching for the World Baseball Classic. The Orioles hope he brings back the same red-hot bat.

Jones hit his second home run of the spring today in the bottom of the first inning after the Orioles fell behind 2-0 to the Red Sox. Welington Castillo's double scored Manny Machado with two outs to tie the game and Chris Johnson followed with a two-run double.

Machado walked after Jones' home run and Chris Davis singled to center field with two outs. Castillo lined a Henry Owens pitch off the left field fence and Johnson deposited a fly ball into the left-center field gap.

Jones didn't let him in the third. He lined a single into left field with the bases loaded and two outs to score two runs, and Joey Rickard crossed the plate when the ball scooted past Andrew Benintendi to give the Orioles an 8-3 lead.

Johnson's throwing error in the top of the first allowed leadoff hitter Mookie Betts to reach and was followed by Benintendi's two-run homer off Dylan Bundy. He atoned for it in the second, again leaving his mark against a left-hander.

Johnson is a career .301/.341/.423 hitter versus southpaws. The Orioles routinely struggle against them. It could turn into a nice marriage.

Jones is feasting on everyone this spring, going 5-for-11 with two doubles, two home runs and four RBIs in four Grapefruit League games and collecting two singles in the second intrasquad game.

Bundy-Delivers-Black-Sidebar.jpgBundy threw 38 pitches, 29 for strikes, in his first exhibition outing. He struck out Marco Hernandez and Bryce Brentz.

Bundy gave up a leadoff single to Matt Dominguez in the second before a strikeout, fly ball and grounder ended his afternoon. Left-hander Richard Bleier replaced him in the third inning and allowed a run on two hits and a walk.

The Orioles got the run back in the bottom of the third on a leadoff walk to Davis, Castillo's single and Craig Gentry's RBI single with one out. And they weren't done.

Jones' day is over, with Logan Schafter pinch-running for him.

Bundy remembers giving up a home run on his first pitch last spring. He waited today until the second batter.

"Making progress, I guess," he said. "Maybe next year it will be the third batter. I don't know. It's just part of the game. Knocking the dust off a little bit and getting out there and getting back to it, I guess."

Bundy threw all of his pitches - fastball, curveball, changeup and the "cutter/slider."

"I was getting around it today, it wasn't what I wanted, but it was the first time I was really throwing it at game speed," Bundy said. "Learned something and now I've got to work on it."

So we're calling it a "cutter/slider?"

"I guess we can just call it a 'cutter' if we want," he said. "I was getting around them today. I threw one or two good ones, but I've still got a lot of work to do."

The home run came on a poorly located 91 mph fastball.

"It was trying to run a fastball in and I threw it right down the middle," Bundy said. "He got it."

The next two batters grounded out and Hernandez struck out looking.

"I was pleased with keeping balls on the ground," Bundy said. "I think there was one popout. The infield, letting them take care of the ground balls. They're not going to be able to hit the ball out if you keep it on the ground. I threw quite a few more two-seams than I normally do. I liked the way that pitch was working today.

"Just basically to get back out there and knock the nerves out of there. I'm just happy with the way I controlled the fastball. I thought I did a decent job of throwing strikes and getting ahead of batters and staying ahead of them. I just threw one pitch right down the middle and he was able to hit it out."

The Orioles were able to respond with a four-run first and Bundy blanked the Red Sox in the second.

"During the season, you want to go out there and get a shutdown inning, and I was able to do that," he said, "so I was happy with the outing."

Update: Infielder Sean Coyle, a former Red Sox farmhand who's coming off back-to-back disappointing minor league seasons due to injury, hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to increase the lead to 11-3.

Update II: The Red Sox scored twice off Richard Rodriguez in the eighth, a David Washington error at first base contributing to the cause. Orioles 11, Red Sox 5

Update III: The Orioles lead 12-5 after Logan Schafer's RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning.
