Jones with a multi-homer game (Tillman outstanding in 6-0 win)

Once again, Adam Jones has directed a 92 mph fastball from Boston starter John Lackey over the out-of-town scoreboard in right field. Jones' second homer tonight increased the Orioles' lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Before tonight, Jones was 7-for-32 (.219) with no home runs against Lackey. Jones has 22 homers this season. Anyone remember the last one that went to right field before tonight? Speak up. This is Jones' third career multi-homer game and the first since May 29, 2012 in Toronto. He's driven in three of the Orioles' four runs. Brian Roberts almost had an RBI in the fourth after singling into right field, but Shane Victorino threw out J.J. Hardy at the plate. Chris Tillman has thrown 84 pitches in five innings. Plate umpire Laz Diaz must take responsibility for a handful of them. Diaz is playing fast and loose with the strike zone tonight. Tillman struck out Victorino at least twice in the top of the fifth inning, but he couldn't get the call. Victorino flied to center field to strand Jacoby Ellsbury, who had doubled with two outs. Tillman has retired 13 of 15 batters and will carry a shutout into the sixth. The only other hit against him came from Dustin Pedroia in the first inning. Tillman has walked three and struck out five. Update: Tillman turned in a gem tonight, and the Orioles' 11th quality start in the last 13 games. Tillman retired 19 of the last 21 batters he faced and held the Red Sox to two hits over seven scoreless innings. He walked three and tied his season high with eight strikeouts. Tillman threw 115 pitches, 72 for strikes. Tommy Hunter has replaced him. Tillman has allowed five runs in his last three starts covering 21 innings. Lackey exited after Manny Machado homered to left with one out in the seventh to increase the Orioles' lead to 5-0. Machado produced his 38th multi-hit game of the season and his sixth straight against Boston, tying the club record held by Paul Blair, Brooks Robinson, Cal Ripken Jr., Melvin Mora and Jay Gibbons. Jones (three) and Machado (two) have driven in all the Orioles' runs tonight. Tonight's attendance: 39,063 Update II: J.J. Hardy homered in the eighth and Jim Johnson, pitching for the first time since July 20, got a double play and a strikeout in the ninth to complete the Orioles' 6-0 win over the Red Sox. The Orioles have won 15 of their 20 and 25 of their last 35 against the Red Sox.
