Last word on Bergesen

The most recent line I posted on Brad Bergesen turned out to be his final one. Bergesen allowed two runs and seven hits in seven innings today for Triple-A Norfolk, with no walks and four strikeouts. He threw 81 pitches, 56 for strikes. He got 14 ground ball outs and two fly ball outs. Bergesen could be recalled to make Saturday's start against the Red Sox at Camden Yards, though Jake Arrieta deserves serious consideration. It's nice to have choices. Alfredo Simon tossed a scoreless eighth and lowered his ERA to 1.59. He's a bullpen candidate if the Orioles want to shake things up. Double-A Bowie's Chorye Spoone continues to struggle. He allowed seven runs (six earned) and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings, with six walks, two strikeouts and a wild pitch. His ERA stands at 5.21. Third baseman Brandon Waring is 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs. He's batting .269 with five homers and 11 RBIs. Outfielder Ronnie Welty hit a grand slam today for Single-A Frederick. Third baseman Billy Rowell is 2-for-3 with a double to raise his average to .244.

Strange day indeed
Fighting back (w/Okajima stat added)
