Machado leaves game with sore wrist (O's win 9-6 in 11 innings)

This isn't how the Orioles wanted Rubén Tejada to make his debut with them.

Manny Machado left tonight's game in the top of the fourth inning with soreness in his left wrist. Tejada stood on the on-deck circle as the final out was recorded in the bottom of the third and moved to Machado's position as the Pirates came to bat.

Replays on MASN seemed to show that a string on Machado's glove got caught in McCutchen's spikes, adding more pressure to a wrist that already had been bent backward on the attempted tag.

The impact jarred the ball loose and McCutchen was ruled safe. He later scored on second baseman Max Moroff's two-run double off Orioles starter Wade Miley.

Miley lasted only 2 2/3 innings and was charged with four runs and eight hits, but the concern shifted to Machado, who rolled the same wrist on opening day.

Machado grounded into a double play in the first inning to lower his average to .213.

Machado missed his only game of the season on May 18 in Detroit due to a sore finger. He was the center of controversy after his spikes dug into the leg of Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia during an April 21 game at Camden Yards.

The Orioles haven't thrown at McCutchen since tonight's incident.

Tejada grounded out to first baseman Josh Bell leading off the bottom of the fourth inning. The Orioles acquired him from the Yankees on Sunday for cash considerations and selected his contract on Tuesday.

Miley had allowed three earned runs in five home starts before tonight. Not counting the two-thirds of an inning he logged against the White Sox on May 5, tonight marked his shortest start since going 1 1/3 innings on Sept. 12, 2016 in Boston.

Two line drives up the middle hastened Miley's departure against the White Sox. The Pirates worked him over for eight hits and two walks among the 18 batters that he faced.

Mike Wright stranded two runners after replacing Miley and the Orioles continue to trail 4-1 in the fifth.

Update: Edwin Jackson entered the game in the seventh inning after Wright retired 10 of 11 batters and Jose Osuna launched a two-run homer to left field to give the Pirates a 6-1 lead.

Update II: Adam Jones homered off Johnny Barbato in the eighth inning, his 11th of the season, to reduce the lead to 6-2.

Update III: Trey Mancini belted a pinch-hit two-run homer to right field off Tony Watson with two outs in the ninth inning to tie the game 6-6. He hit a changeup, the eighth pitch of the at-bat.

Joey Rickard had a sacrifice fly off Watson and J.J. Hardy followed with an RBI double. Both runs were charged to Barbato.

Jackson allowed two runs and four hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Update IV: Mancini hit a three-run walk-off home run off Wade LeBlanc in the 11th inning to give the Orioles a 9-6 win.

Rickard singled with one out and Joseph walked with two outs.

Mancini had five RBIs after entering the game in the ninth inning.

Mychal Givens got the win, making him 16-2 with the Orioles.
