Machado named co-AL Player of the Week

Orioles shortstop Manny Machado and Athletics left-hander Sean Manaea have been named co-Players of the Week in the American League.

One guy can't stop getting hits and the other didn't allow any in his most recent start.

Machado batted .500/.560/1.273 (11-for-22) over six games with two doubles, five home runs, eight RBIs and seven runs scored to earn his fourth AL Player of the Week Award. He's currently riding a 10-game hitting streak.

Manaea no-hit the Red Sox Saturday night in Oakland.

Single-A Delmarva left-hander Zac Lowther, 21, has been named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week after posting a 0.90 ERA and striking out 18 batters over 10 innings.

After three starts this season, Lowther has gone 2-1 with a 0.56 ERA and league-leading 31 strikeouts in 16 innings. His ERA is the lowest in the SAL.

The Orioles chose Lowther in the second round of the 2017 draft out of Xavier. He didn't allow a run this year in the first 14 2/3 innings.

Kevin Gausman is on the mound tonight as the Orioles try to gain a split of their four-game series against the Indians. He's 2-2 with a 2.53 ERA and 1.219 WHIP in four career games (three starts) against Cleveland.

Brandon Guyer is 3-for-5 with three doubles against Gausman. Edwin Encarnacion is 1-for-19 with one home run and seven strikeouts.

Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco is 3-0 with a 2.60 ERA and 0.795 WHIP in four starts this season, the latest challenge for an Orioles offense that's scuffling for runs. He's allowed one run and six hits over 16 innings in his last two outings.

Right-handers are hitting .130 (6-for-46) against Carrasco this season.

Carrasco has posted a 2.88 ERA and 1.080 WHIP in five career games (four starts) against the Orioles. He's allowed three runs in 14 innings at Camden Yards.

Adam Jones is 2-for-12 with a home run against Carrasco. Colby Rasmus owns the other home run off Carrasco, but he's on the disabled list.
