Machado on Machado

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado registered his 18th multi-hit game today, tying Kansas City's Alex Gordon and Detroit's Miguel Cabrera for the major league lead. He's notched at least three hits in four of his last five games. Machado has 13 multi-hit games in his last 21 and is batting .419 (39-for-93) with 12 doubles, a triple, three home runs and 13 RBIs. He's hit safely in 19 of those 21 games. Machado improved his average to .368 against right-handed pitching. I'm pretty sure he also made it stop raining today. Here's a sampling of the postgame interview with Machado: On whether he's happy with how he's playing: "Personally, I'm real satisfied with what I'm doing. A little more adjustments to make. We're going to keep it going and hopefully come back Friday and win some more games." On whether he could have imagined getting off to this kind of start: "You think about it in the offseason. This is your goal. You work out. You get ready for this long season. That's where it starts. You anticipate it. You set yourself some goals. Then, when you're here, it just happens. Just take it day-by-day, pitch-by-pitch and out-by-out. The main thing is to go out there and just have fun." On what he needs to improve on: "There are certain things. Some at-bats, some pitches, I get a little lazy. Whatever the case may be in that situation, just be a little more consistent with it." On whether he's ever had a stretch like this: "The last time I remember was maybe my first month in Delmarva, but that's about it. Then, I got hurt. It went downhill from there." On at least temporarily leading the league in hits: "I didn't know that. Just go out there and keep playing. It's still a long season to go. It's only a month and a half into the season. There are six more months. There is a lot of baseball left to be played. Just go out there and keep playing." On leading the league in WAR: "You've got to play baseball. That's the main thing. We don't think about the stats. You don't think about (WAR) and all that other junk there is out there. Go out there and play baseball and win games. That's the main goal. This organization, we're out here to win games and be better every day."
