McCutchen suspended 50 games

Orioles minor league pitcher Daniel McCutchen, who gained attention this spring for an adjustment to his delivery, has been suspended 50 games without pay for his violation of the Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. According to a press release from Major League Baseball, McCutchen tested positive for performance-enhancing substances Methenolone and a metabolite of Trenbolone. His suspension is effective immediately. McCutchen, who is currently on the roster of Triple-A Norfolk, allowed five runs and 13 hits in 7 1/3 innings this spring. His results improved once the Orioles talked him into throwing with a sidearm delivery. McCutchen appeared in one game with the Tides this week, allowing four runs and three hits in 1 2/3 innings. He pitched once for the Pittsburgh Pirates last summer and is 8-11 with a 4.77 ERA in 108 major league games. He's 51-32 with a 3.25 ERA in 136 minor league games. The Orioles signed McCutchen to a minor league deal on Nov. 12. Two months ago, Hedo TÃƒÂ¼rkoÃ„Å¸lu of the NBA's Orlando Magic was suspended 20 games without pay by the league after testing positive for Methenolone.
