McLouth's stolen base streak ends, Davis' HR drought ends

Orioles left fielder Nate McLouth is 2-for-2 at the plate today and 0-for-1 in arguments. McLouth singled again leading off the bottom of the third inning, and he appeared to get his 23rd stolen base of the season, which would have tied his career high. However, second base umpire Joe West ruled that McLouth's foot came off the bag as he came out of his slide, and shortstop Erick Aybar applied the tag. McLouth and manager Buck Showalter applied pressure to West, both of them disputing the call. Showalter was more animated, but he didn't get tossed. Showalter had more than a few words for West. None of them were compliments over the way he handled Monday's rain delay. McLouth was 22-for-23 in stolen base attempts before today's controversy. His streak of 19 straight successful attempts has come to an end. McLouth's streak was the third-longest since the franchise moved to Baltimore in 1954, according to Elias. Brady Anderson had 36 in a row from 1994-95, and Luis Aparicio had 21 in 1963-64. The Orioles had bigger issues than West's call. The Angels have produced lots of hard-hit balls against Jason Hammel, and Hank Conger's home run in the third and Howie Kendricks' double in the fourth tied the game 2-2. It's not tied anymore. Chris Davis homered to center field leading off the bottom of the fourth after flying to the warning track in left-center in the first. Davis hadn't homered or driven in a run since June 2, a span of eight games. Davis was 1-for-19 before connecting off Angels starter Jerome Williams. Conger's homer traveled an estimated 385 feet to right. It bounced on the back of the flag court and onto Eutaw St. Update: The Orioles just announced that Conger's home run did land on Eutaw Street, the 69th in the ballpark's history, the 41st by an opponent and the second by an Angel. Lee Stevens did it on May 23, 1992 - the third in the ballpark's history. Update II: Adam Jones led off the bottom of the sixth with his 14th home run to increase the lead to 4-2. Davis followed with his 100th career double. His slump may be ending. Manny Machado has gone 11 straight games without a multi-hit game until today. Hammel has allowed two runs and six hits in six innings, with one walk, one strikeout and one home run. He's thrown 94 pitches, 68 for strikes. No one is warming in the bullpen.
