The Orioles have placed pitcher Miguel Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to yesterday with a strained right groin muscle and recalled pitcher Mike Wright from Triple-A Norfolk.
Wright gives the Orioles a seventh reliever, and he will start on Sunday if not needed out of the bullpen.
Wright, 25, became the second Orioles starter in club history to begin his major league career with two consecutive scoreless starts - Tom Phoebus also did it on September 15-20, 1966 - after tossing 14 1/3 scoreless innings. He's made four starts with the Orioles this season, going 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA in 24 1/3 innings.
In seven starts with Norfolk this season, Wright is 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings.
Gonzalez, 31, is 5-4 with a 3.33 ERA in 12 starts with the Orioles this season.
The Orioles will try to run their winning streak to a season-high four games tonight and complete a sweep of the Red Sox.
The Orioles bullpen has registered a 1.21 ERA over the last seven games, allowing three earned runs in 22 1/3 innings. All four save opportunities have been converted.
Left-handers are batting .217 this season against Red Sox lefty Wade Miley. Right-handers are hitting .278.
