Miguel Gonzalez leaves game with groin injury (O's win 1-0)

The Orioles are short a reliever tonight and they just lost their starting pitcher to an injury.

Left-hander T.J. McFarland replaced starter Miguel Gonzalez with one out in the fifth inning and Blake Swihart at third base.

Manager Buck Showalter, pitching coach Dave Wallace and head athletic trainer Richie Bancells came to the mound after Dustin Pedroia bounced out. Gonzalez walked to the dugout and McFarland was given ample time to warm up.

McFarland got a strikeout and fly ball to strand Swihart.

Gonzalez didn't follow through as normal on one of his final pitches. He could be bothered by back stiffness. The Orioles will provide an update.

The game was scoreless when Gonzalez exited after 89 pitches. Swihart led off with a double, the Red Sox's fourth hit.

Gonzalez threw only 10 pitches in the first inning, but he stranded two runners in the second and third, issued a two-out walk in the foruth and gave up Swihart's double.

Gonzalez walked two and struck out one.

Gonzalez failed to complete five innings in three of his 26 starts last season. It's happened three times in 12 starts this year.

The Orioles have two hits in four innings against left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez - singles by Manny Machado in the first and Matt Wieters in the fourth. He's walked three batters and struck out four.

Rodriguez threw 27 pitches in the first inning. He's at 73 through the fourth.

Update: Gonzalez has a right groin strain.

It's too soon to know whether he's headed to the disabled list, but that's one way to get back to a seven-man bullpen.

Update II: Rodriguez allowed three hits in six scoreless innings, with three walks, seven strikeouts and a hit batter. He threw 102 pitches before Matt Barnes replaced him.

Steve Pearce led off the seventh with a double off Barnes, took third on J.J. Hardy's single and scored on a wild pitch to produce the game's first run.

Update III: The Orioles won for the fourth time in their last five games by defeating the Red Sox 1-0 before 28,460 at Camden Yards

Zach Britton registered five outs for his 16th save. He struck out David Ortiz and Mike Napoli to strand two runners in the eighth.

Britton hasn't allowed a run in his last 10 appearances.

McFarland and Chaz Roe combined for three scoreless innings before Britton entered the game.

The Orioles (27-30) have three shutouts this season. They're 2-20 when scoring two runs or fewer.
