More on last night's game and Gausman

Remember that stat I passed along last night about the Yankees being 19-0 when they score first? Well ... That was quite a dramatic mood shift at Camden Yards last night. The Orioles win in 10 innings on Nate McLouth's walk-off home run, and news breaks that last year's top draft pick, Kevin Gausman, was going to make his major league debut Thursday night in Toronto. No blown saves, no more losing streak, no more angst over Thursday's starter. It's a shame that Gausman will be wearing an Orioles uniform for the first time in Canada instead of Camden. Fans have been dying to see him. The energy level would have been lethal. On the plus side, it's going to be great for MASN's ratings. If Gausman sticks around, his next turn would come Tuesday in Washington. Are the Orioles trying to hide him? What the heck? At least he's getting closer. His home debut would come June 2 against the Tigers, but we're getting ahead of ourselves. We still don't know how much the Orioles are committed to keeping Gausman in the majors. Want to feel sorry for someone? Try Double-A Bowie manager Gary Kendall. He's already down to one true outfielder in Henry Urrutia, who's still adapting to professional life in the U.S. Everyone else is hurt or at Triple-A Norfolk. Catcher Caleb Joseph started in left field last night - and threw out two runners. Shortstop Garabez Rosa started in center field. And now, Kendall has lost Gausman. What's next? Are the Orioles going to move his car without telling him where it's parked? Not that Kendall's complaining. He's a big reason why Gausman has reached the point where he's deemed ready for Thursday's assignment. I was wrong about Gausman's arrival date and I was wrong about last night's starter at second base. I figured that manager Buck Showalter would stick with Alexi Casilla, but he went back to Yamaico Navarro, who made two outstanding plays in the field after failing to come up with Travis Hafner's grounder in the first inning that deflected off his glove and allowed Brett Gardner to score. He also walked and reached on an infield hit. Navarro hasn't faced Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda. Casilla is 1-for-2. Small sample size. Chris Dickerson should remain in the lineup, most likely as the designated hitter, after homering twice and reaching on an infield hit. The Orioles could go with a DH platoon of Dickerson - when he isn't in the outfield - and Danny Valencia. It seems to be their best option at the moment.
