More on Tillman and Dickerson, and wrapping up an 8-6 win

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Orioles manager Buck Showalter didn't have an update on pitcher Chris Tillman following today's game against the Twins. He expects to have a better feel for the situation in the morning.

Tillman, as you know, didn't throw his bullpen session today because of soreness in his right shoulder.

"The doctor, they didn't really spend a lot of time talking to Chris other than on the field. They kind of convened about what the next move might be if he continues down this path. That's the question we have to answer tomorrow," said Showalter, who called executive vice president Dan Duquette with the news.

"This is the same development that started in the offseason when he started his throwing program, but it's in the same spot where he had some issues last year. We've got a pretty good feel for what the issue is structurally. I'm still very confident he's going to pitch for us at some point this year. We'll see what the next few days bring. Just, the start of the season is doubtful."

Outfielder Chris Dickerson was hit on the right elbow and came out of the game in the bottom of the third inning. The ball struck a nerve and Dickerson couldn't close his glove.

"Sometimes, you compress the nerve and it doesn't come back right away," Showalter said.

First baseman Chris Davis is taking medication for his bronchitis and remains day-to-day. Outfielder Seth Smith worked out this morning and his sore hamstring is improving.

The Orioles scored three times in the top of the ninth, with Joey Rickard's single tying the game and Francisco Peña delivering a two-out, two-run single, and Stefan Crichton stranded a runner to get the save in a 8-6 victory over the Twins.

Crichton struck out two batters after coming over from minor league camp. One of his fastballs was clocked at 96 mph on the stadium gun.

Paul Janish began the rally with a leadoff double and pinch-runner Cedric Mullins stole third base with one out before Rickard singled.

"Cedric took off," Showalter said. "That was impressive. We were like, 'Really?' We're not used to that. He went for it. That was good."

Dylan Bundy lasted only two innings and allowed five runs on a solo homer by Byron Buxton and a grand slam by Jorge Polanco. He threw 56 pitches.

Showalter said Bundy didn't get credited for two strikeouts, including one on Brian Dozier. Had the white of the plate.

"What are you going to do?" Showalter said. "He feels good physically. Just a really hitter-friendly day. It was good for him. Had a little bump. He got close to his pitch count, which was good. Unfortunately, it was in two innings. Tough day to pitch."

The Orioles hit three home runs off Twins starter Phil Hughes. Showalter was most impressed by Trey Mancini's shot to right-center field.

"That was the best one of the bunch," Showalter said. "That's pretty impressive. He's swung the bat really well down here."

Showalter also said he can see why people like Austin Wynns behind the plate.

Chance Sisco started and had an RBI double. The Twins stole three bases while he was catching, including two by Danny Santana with Jayson Aquino on the mound.

"He caught the ball well. We didn't give him much help with the running game. He didn't have much of a chance," Showalter said.

"He probably had a little anxiety. We wanted to give him a start here."
