Notes and Yankees lineup

Reliever Wesley Wright, on the disabled list with a strained left trapezius muscle, had an MRI today at 1:30 p.m. and the Orioles are waiting for the results.

Matt Wieters took coach's and live batting practice today in Sarasota, and he's scheduled to serve as the designated hitter Tuesday in an extended spring training game.

"He was a little sore in the right places," said manager Buck Showalter.

Dane De La Rosa, recovering from knee surgery, threw BP to Wieters and also will play in extended games.

Jimmy Paredes played nine innings in an extended game today and went 1-for-4. He was used in left field and right field, and will play third base on Tuesday.

The Orioles want Paredes to play a few more extended games before going on an injury-rehab assignment. Single-A Frederick is home through Wednesday and Double-A Bowie begins its first homestand on Thursday, making it more likely that Paredes joins the Baysox.

Shortstop J.J. Hardy (shoulder) continues to make progress and remains scheduled to play at Double-A Bowie while the Orioles are on their road trip. He's hitting soft tosses today and still must take batting practice.

Hunter Harvey, on the minor league disabled list with a slight fracture in his left shin, threw again on flat ground today.

Triple-A Norfolk knuckleballer Eddie Gamboa can make his scheduled start tonight in Gwinnett after being optioned today to make room for outfielder David Lough.

Pitching coach Dave Wallace is in Los Angeles today to attend a funeral. Bullpen coach Dom Chiti will move into the dugout and Ramon Martinez will take over Chiti's responsibilities.

Showalter on his preference to have a four-man bench: "We're always the sum of the parts."

Showalter on the challenge of creating room for players coming off the disabled list: "Play better, play good and make it tough on us."

The Orioles signed right-hander Devin Jones to a minor league deal. If the name sounds familiar, he was traded to the Padres for reliever Brad Brach and subsequently released earlier this month. Now he's back in the organization.

The Orioles invite the public to attend extended spring training games during the months of April, May and June. There's no charge to watch the games, which will be held on Field 4 at the Ed Smith Stadium complex beginning Tuesday. Gates open 30 minutes before game time. Free parking is available in the East Lot.
