Notes on Paredes, Wilson, Gallardo and more

The Orioles aren't required to remove Jimmy Paredes from his injury rehab assignment until Monday. However, it appears that a decision has been made on his status.

Paredes has been placed on waivers, according to an industry source. The club thus far hasn't found any takers.

Manager Buck Showalter said this morning that he wasn't going to divulge the plan.

"Everybody knows, but I'm not ... That would be a good question for Dan (Duquette)," Showalter said.

Paredes is 8-for-24 with Triple-A Norfolk. He's starting at third base today.

"I know he's on the bus with them to Pawtucket after the game today," Showalter said. "He made a couple nice plays last night at third."

Tyler Wilson throws white.jpgTyler Wilson is available in the bullpen today and Showalter wants to give him an inning if the circumstances allow it. Otherwise, Wilson will have a side session.

"Seeing if we need him today," Showalter said.

Wilson and Mike Wright are candidates to start Thursday against the Mariners at Camden Yards. The spot is listed as TBD, as I wrote this morning.

Showalter expressed some concerns about the bullpen and hinted that the Orioles considered adding an arm following last night's game. The off-day on Monday is helpful.

"We had the potential of something last night because I really want to come into Tuesday with a full bullpen," Showalter said. "That's one of the reasons why Tyler is in the bullpen today. Just trying to cover ourselves."

Showalter said Yovani Gallardo's shoulder felt good this morning after yesterday's throwing session from 60 feet. Gallardo will be expanded to 90 feet on Monday and later to 120.

Paul Janish is expected to get back in the lineup Tuesday against Mariners right-hander Wade Miley.

The Tigers have lost 11 of their last 12 games and manager Brad Ausmus is on the hot seat. Showalter doesn't think Ausmus, his counterpart in the 2014 American League Division Series, belongs on it.

"He's part of the solution, not the problem," Showalter said. "He's good."
