One time through the rotation

SARASOTA, Fla. - You already know that Brad Bergesen and Chris Tillman are pitching in the first exhibition game on Feb. 28 versus the Pirates in Bradenton. Here's what you didn't know until today: Jeremy Guthrie is starting the March 1 home exhibition game against Tampa Bay. Justin Duchscherer will start March 2 against the Phillies in Clearwater. Brian Matusz and Rule 5 pick Adrian Rosario will pitch in the March 3 game against the Twins in Sarasota, and Jake Arrieta and Ryan Drese will take the mound on March 4 against the Tigers in Lakeland (just not at the same time.) Rosario has a shot to make the team, but I'd expect him to return to the Brewers later this spring. Luis Lebron threw off flat ground today after two bullpen sessions earlier in camp. The Orioles are slowing him down as he recovers from ligament-reconstructive surgery on his right elbow. He won't pitch in any Grapefruit League games. Mitch Atkins says he might start throwing again later this week. He's been sidelined with an oblique injury. "It hasn't even been a week since I stopped throwing, and it feels like forever," he said. "I'm taking it slow, especially early, so I don't do something to make it worse. I want to nip it in the bud." Josh Bell will take ground balls at first base later in camp, but not for a while. Jason Berken is still viewed strictly as a reliever. No chance that he becomes a starter later in camp. Berken is a reliever who can go multiple innings, and Showalter wants two or three bullpen guys who possess that skill. Showalter also would like Jim Johnson and Michael Gonzalez to be able to finish an inning and come back out for the next one. No sore arms among the pitchers in camp, but the catchers will be given a day off from throwing, perhaps as early as tomorrow. Showalter mentioned that Craig Tatum is a little sore. We're told that three windshields were smashed from batting practice home runs on one of the back fields, which is why the Orioles moved today's session to the Camden Yards field. And why they keep checking the wind. Vladimir Guerrero loves to run, something that Rangers manager Ron Washington passed along to Showalter. Unless you tell him otherwise, Guerrero might assume that he has the green light. There's a pretty good chance that the opposition won't be looking for it. Showalter on Kevin Gregg: "A lot of people in places he's been hate to see him go. Visiting clubbies, especially. He's supposed to be a real good tipper."
