Orioles acquire Eveland from Dodgers for Martin (and Henson)

DALLAS - The Orioles completed their first trade of the Winter Meetings today, acquiring left-hander Dana Eveland from the Los Angeles Dodgers for minor league pitcher Jarret Martin and outfielder Tyler Henson. The Orioles designated reliever Willie Eyre for assignment to make room for Eveland on the 40-man roster. Eyre was a non-tender candidate. Eveland was 12-8 with a 4.38 ERA in 25 games at Triple-A Albuquerque this year. He made five starts with the Dodgers, going 3-2 with a 3.03 ERA. The Orioles will be Eveland's seventh organization. The Brewers drafted him in the 16th round in 2002. He's also pitched for the Diamondbacks, Athletics, Blue Jays and Pirates. Eveland is 19-24 with a 5.52 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP in 100 games, including 59 starts, in his major league career. Eveland was a non-tender candidate. Martin, a left-hander, was 5-12 with a 4.96 ERA in 31 games (18 starts) at Single-A Delmarva this season. He was an 18th-round pick in the 2009 draft. Martin's name came up in the Taylor Teagarden trade talks with the Rangers. Henson, a spring training invitee this year, batted .247 with 18 doubles, three triples, three homers and 36 RBIs with Triple-A Norfolk. FOX Sports first reported that the Orioles acquired Eveland. The club hasn't sent out a press release, but it will arrive shortly. Also, Double-A Bowie second baseman Greg Miclat was sent to the Rangers as the player to be named later in the Teagarden trade. No big surprise, since his name was floated in the initial trade discussions. The Rangers obviously like him. Miclat batted .280 with 50 steals in 53 attempts this season.
