Orioles and Reds lineups for Game 2 (updated)

Jordan Westburg follows last night’s major league debut with another start tonight at second base. He’s batting seventh again.

Ramón Urías is playing first base, Ryan McKenna is in right field, Aaron Hicks is in center and Anthony Santander is the designated hitter.

Adley Rutschman’s two hits last night made him the first catcher since Jorge Posada in 2000 to record 75-plus hits and 50-plus walks in 75 games, according to STATS.

Austin Hays is batting leadoff again. He has a hit in 17 of 21 games this month, slashing .337/.364/.518 (28-for-83) with nine doubles, two home runs, 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored. His .319 average leads the American League.

Cedric Mullins, who’s on the bench, had a 110.5 mph single last night in the seventh inning that was the hardest-hit ball of his career.

Jorge Mateo stays at shortstop. He had the first multi-walk game of his career last night.

Tyler Wells has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last five starts, and his 0.89 WHIP remains the lowest in the majors. He’s never faced the Reds.

Wells is one of three pitchers holding right-handed and left-handed batters to sub-.200 averages, joining the Angels’ Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers’ Tony Gonsolin.

Also, Wells has 52 strikeouts and seven walks at Camden Yards this season, compared to 35/19 on the road.

The Orioles led the majors with a 37-6 record when allowing eight hits or fewer. They’re 11-23 when allowing nine or more.

They also rank first with 28 comeback wins.

Tonight’s game gives them a chance to move 20 games above .500, and three behind the Rays if the division leaders lose in Arizona.

Rookie left-hander Andrew Abbott is 3-0 with a 1.14 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in four starts since making his debut on June 5. His first three outings were scoreless over 17 2/3 innings before he allowed three solo home runs with no walks and 10 strikeouts in six frames against the Rockies.

The Reds drafted Abbott in the second round in 2021 out of the University of Virginia.

Kevin Newman’s 405-foot double in the first inning last night was the longest non-homer of his career and would have been a home run in 28 of 30 ballparks, according to Statcast.

Cincinnati has lost three in a row and dropped out of first place in the National League Central. Their road winning streak ended last night at eight games.

The first Phase 2 update in All-Star voting has the Rangers’ Jonah Heim receiving 54 percent and Rutschman 46 percent. Voting ends at noon Thursday and starters will be announced at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

Update: Mullins is getting the night off unless he’s needed in the late innings.

“He’s coming off the groin strain, he’s played the last three games,” said manager Brandon Hyde. “He’ll be in there tomorrow.”

Hyde didn’t have an update on injured reliever Dillon Tate, who was removed from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Norfolk and sent to Baltimore for further evaluations and testing.

“Still too soon, still evaluating,” Hyde said.
