Orioles and Royals lineups (updated)

The Orioles are breaking out another version of their lineup for today’s series finale against the Royals.

Ryan Mountcastle is on the bench again due to an illness. Adley Rutschman isn’t starting, though he always seems to find his way into a game.

Josh Lester is the first baseman today.

Ryan O’Hearn is starting in right field and batting fourth. Gunnar Henderson is the shortstop, and he stays in the leadoff spot after homering again yesterday.

Kyle Gibson will try for his seventh quality start. He faced the Royals last month in Kansas City and allowed a season-high six runs and 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Gibson is making his 28th career appearance and 26th start against the Royals. He’s 10-6 with a 3.99 ERA and 1.309 WHIP.

The Orioles have won three games in a row and are 16 above .500 for the second time this season. They trail the first-place Rays by 5 1/2.

They can secure their third three-game series sweep today.

Right-hander Carlos Hernández has appeared in 26 games but only three as a starter. He’s 0-3 with a 4.31 ERA, 1.085 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings.

Hernández threw a scoreless inning in relief Friday night.

The Royals have lost five in a row, eight of nine and 15 of 19.

Update: Reliever Danny Coulombe hasn't pitched since Tuesday because he's feeling under the weather. He might be available today.

Mountcastle, who's also sick, hit in the cage this morning.

The Orioles and Blue Jays haven't listed their starters for the series at Camden Yards that begins Tuesday night. Dean Kremer, Kyle Bradish and Tyler Wells would start if adjustments aren't made to the rotation.

Manager Brandon Hyde anticipates the Royals using right-hander Mike Mayers behind Hernández.
