Orioles and Wieters exchanging salary figures (updated)

Catcher Matt Wieters is the only arbitration-eligible Orioles player who didn't agree to terms today. The Orioles have submitted their salary figure and are waiting for agent Scott Boras to make a counter proposal. Negotiations will continue while a hearing date is scheduled for next month. A three-member panel will choose a winner if the sides go to arbitration. Wieters made $5.5 million last season while batting .235/.287/.417 with 29 doubles, 22 homers and 79 RBIs. Boras turned down the Orioles' offer earlier today, which led to the current exchanging of figures. Update: Wieters has filed for $8.75 million, while the Orioles have countered at $6.5 million. Earlier today, Tommy Hunter agreed to a $3 million deal, Troy Patton settled for $1.275 million, Chris Davis settled for $10.35 million and Brian Matusz agreed to $2.4 million. The Orioles reached agreement yesterday with Bud Norris on a $5.3 million contract. A few other notes: The Orioles still haven't announced the signing of outfielder Tyler Colvin to a major league deal. He's already taken a physical, and I'm told that the club is waiting on a few things. Wei-Yin Chen had his right knee examined yesterday and the Orioles are encouraged by his progress following surgery in October to remove bone spurs. Manager Buck Showalter recently mentioned that Chen's recovery hadn't been "seamless," but it appears as though he'll be ready for opening day. Former Orioles reliever Todd Frohwirth, currently a scout in the organization, is expected to spend four or five days at spring training while working with Darren O'Day on a changeup. Frohwirth threw with the same side-armed delivery and could be a useful resource for O'Day, who hasn't been able to master the pitch and pretty much abandoned it. It's sort of like Phil Niekro teaching the knuckleball. Frohwirth was 17-13 with 2.71 ERA while pitching for the Orioles from 1991-93.
