Orioles claim right-hander Vance Worley off waivers

The Orioles today announced that they have claimed right-hander Vance Worley off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, right-hander Jorge Rondon has been designated for assignment.

Worley, 28, went 4-6 with a 4.02 ERA (71.2IP, 32ER) in 23 games (eight starts) with the Pirates in 2015. He posted a 2.83 ERA (28.2IP, 9ER) and held opponents to a .236 batting average over his 15 appearances as a reliever. In 104 career major league games (81 starts) over six seasons, he has gone 31-28 with a 3.79 ERA (508.2IP, 214ER). Worley won a career-high 11 games with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2011 and has tossed 100 or more innings in three of his six major league seasons.

Rondon, 27, went 0-1 with a 13.19 ERA (14.1IP, 21ER) in 10 games between the Orioles and Colorado Rockies in 2015.
