"Orioles Classics" #TBT: An unexpected call to arms and a parade of homers

It won't be long now. Pretty soon, the house will be filled with the aroma of roasting turkey. Folks will cram around the table to give thanks for life's many blessings. They'll also debate which type of cranberry sauce is better, the jiggly gel that slides out of the can or the kind boasting actual berries.

Friday, Nov. 16, 9 a.m. - It took 17 innings for the Orioles to vanquish the Red Sox 9-6 on May 6, 2012 at Fenway Park. Chris Davis went 0-for-8 in the marathon, but his biggest contribution came when he moved from designated hitter to pitcher, tossing two scoreless innings as the O's prevailed on Adam Jones' three-run blast off another position player who pitched, former Orioles outfielder Darnell McDonald. This game took more than six hours to complete, so you can start with breakfast at first pitch and finish with a late lunch as Davis blanks Boston in relief.

Monday, Nov. 19, 7 p.m. - The Orioles outslugged the Red Sox 12-7 on June 2, 2016 behind seven - count 'em, seven! - home runs. Jones and Mark Trumbo both went deep twice, while Manny Machado, Pedro Álvarez and Francisco Peña also connected. The O's scored in the fourth through eighth innings as Mychal Givens picked up the victory in relief of Ubaldo Jiménez.

Tuesday, Nov. 20, 9 a.m. - In another breakfast special, the Orioles moved into a first-place tie in the American League East on Sept. 6, 2012, collecting a 10-6 victory over the Yankees hours after Iron Man Cal Ripken Jr. was honored with a statue dedicated at Camden Yards. Baltimore batters hit six home runs, with eighth-inning blasts by Jones, Mark Reynolds and Davis turning the tide the O's way.

Wednesday, Nov. 21, 7 p.m. - A pair of rain delays didn't dampen the enthusiasm of opening day on April 4, 2016 at Camden Yards. Matt Wieters' RBI single in the 10th walked off the Twins in a 3-2 triumph, sending the sellout crowd of 45,785 home happy.
