Orioles facing different Rays starter tonight (O's down 2-0)

The Orioles won't face Erasmo Ramírez tonight in the second game of their series against the Rays. At least, not at the start.

Ramirez has been scratched due to the uncertain weather condition and replaced by right-hander Austin Pruitt. Ramírez is available to pitch in relief.

The rain stopped earlier this afternoon and the game will begin on time.

Pruitt, a rookie, is 2-0 with a 7.94 ERA in eight relief appearances. He's allowed 10 earned runs (12 total) and 21 hits in 11 1/3 innings, with three walks, 10 strikeouts and one home run.

Left-handers are batting .429 against Pruitt, a ninth-round pick in 2013 out of the University of Houston. Right-handers are batting .364.

Orioles outfielder Joey Rickard will have to wait another day to receive more at-bats on his injury rehab assignment.

Tonight's game at Single-A Delmarva was postponed due to rain and will be made up Wednesday as part of a doubleheader at Perdue Stadium.

The first game will begin at 10:35 a.m., with the second game starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opening game. Both games will go seven innings.

Rickard was scheduled to play tonight in Delmarva and possibly join Single-A Frederick in Potomac on Wednesday. He could play both ends of the doubleheader and speed up the process.

The Orioles want to activate Rickard from the disabled list on Friday. Manager Buck Showalter mentioned that Rickard could be optioned to Triple-A Norfolk, though he'd rather avoid it.

"That's always out there," Showalter said. "I hope not. I'd like to bring him back here, but I'm just throwing it out there. I don't see that happening, but maybe someone has a better idea of why it should happen."

Rickard went 1-for-4 with a run scored Tuesday night. He was 0-for-6 with the Orioles before spraining the middle finger on his left hand.

Update: Wade Miley walked two batters in the fourth and they both scored to give Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead. Tim Beckham had an RBI single and Derek Norris had a sacrifice fly.

Miley has walked five batters in 3 2/3 innings. The Orioles, meanwhile, have one hit off Pruitt in three innings. Jonathan Schoop doubled in the second after Hyun Soo Kim was hit by a pitch.
