Orioles in market for outfielder, Scott update

To follow up on a tweet that I sent earlier today (@MASNRoch), the Orioles most definitely are in the market for another outfielder. Signing Endy Chavez as a free agent didn't end their search. Coco Crisp isn't coming to Baltimore. Put that rumor to bed and turn out the lights. One official termed a report that they were close to signing the veteran free agent as "speculation," but he confirmed that the Orioles are looking for another outfielder. What should we read into it? Does this mean that a trade is in the works? Will Nolan Reimold be used more as the designated hitter? Here's the list of free-agent outfielders, courtesy of MLBTradeRumors. You'll notice that a few names appear at more than one position: Left fielders Pat Burrell (35) Johnny Damon (37) Jay Gibbons (35) Jonny Gomes (31) Carlos Guillen (36) Scott Hairston (32) Bill Hall (32) Willie Harris (34) Raul Ibanez (40) Conor Jackson (30) Austin Kearns (32) Fred Lewis (31) Ryan Ludwick (33) Juan Pierre (34) Luke Scott (34) Ryan Spilborghs (32) Marcus Thames (35) Center fielders Alfredo Amezaga (34) Rick Ankiel (32) Yoenis Cespedes (26) Coco Crisp (32) Scott Hairston (32) Corey Patterson (32) Cody Ross (31) Right fielders Milton Bradley (34) J.D. Drew (36) Kosuke Fukudome (35) Willie Harris (34) Brad Hawpe (33) Ryan Ludwick (33) Xavier Nady (33) Magglio Ordonez (38) Cody Ross (31) Ryan Spilborghs (32) Scott was non-tendered by the Orioles after making $6.4 million last season. He's rehabbing his right shoulder after undergoing surgery on July 26 to repair posterior and SLAP tears. I'm told that 11 teams have expressed interest in Scott - five or six more than the others. However, the Orioles haven't made contact since non-tendering Scott on Dec. 12. They left the door open to a return, but apparently are focused on other needs at the moment, including the rotation and a leadoff hitter. Shifting topics, the Orioles are again offering fans a chance to celebrate their birthday with a free ticket to a game. Fans who register at www.orioles.com, will receive a voucher for a free ticket to a non-prime Orioles game in his/her birthday month. Anyone with a birthday in January through March will receive a voucher for an April game, and anyone with a birthday in October through December will receive a voucher for a September game. More than 50,000 fans have participated in the program since its inception. My birthday is in September, in case you were thinking of buying me a gift. Shirt sizes vary.
