Guaranteed of having another winning month, the Orioles continue their homestand today against the Guardians with Adley Rutschman on the bench and Austin Hays moved to second in the order.
Hays has eight RBIs in his last eight games and nine in his last 11.
Adam Frazier is batting seventh. Ryan McKenna gets the start in right field.
Tyler Wells has allowed eight runs and 11 hits in his last two starts covering 10 innings. He’s walked three batters, struck out 15 and surrendered five home runs.
Wells has made three career appearances against Cleveland, including one start, and allowed two runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings.
The Orioles are facing another left-handed starter, Logan Allen, who made his major league debut this year and has posted a 3.31 ERA and 1.439 WHIP in six starts. He’s surrendered only three home runs in 32 2/3 innings.
This isn’t the same Logan Allen who pitched briefly for the Orioles in 2022.
The Guardians are 23-29 and in third place in the American League Central. They have a minus-38 run differential and rank last in the majors with 178 runs scored. Their .638 OPS also is last.
Cleveland’s 3.76 ERA ranks sixth.
The club’s last three-game sweep in Baltimore came in 2001. The Orioles lost two of three games at Camden Yards last season.
