ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Orioles will attempt to start a new winning streak this afternoon with Dean Kremer making his last start before the All-Star break.
Kremer has a 2.15 ERA and 1.248 WHIP in seven appearances since returning from the oblique injury he sustained in the visiting bullpen at Tropicana Field in the season’s third game. He’s surrendered only two home runs in 37 2/3 innings.
Kremer hasn’t allowed a run in four of his last five starts. He shut out the Rays over six innings on June 17 in Baltimore.
Today is Kremer’s first appearance in a game in St. Petersburg.
Ramón Urías is starting at second base today. He hit two home runs last night, giving him three in his last three games, and is batting .387/.441/.677 (12-for-31) with 11 RBIs since being reinstated from the injured list.
Robinson Chirinos is catching, with Adley Rutschman getting a rest day. Tyler Nevin is the third baseman.
Trey Mancini homered last night and tied his season high with three hits. He has a hit in 19 of his last 21 games, slashing .291/.344/.465 (25-for-86) with six doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs.
The Orioles have lost 10 consecutive games at Tropicana Field dating back to July 20, 2021, their longest streak in club history. They’ve been outscored 68-23 and have posted a 6.81 ERA.
They hadn’t led at the conclusion of an inning at Tropicana Field for 62 frames before going ahead 1-0 last night.
Tyler Wells’ six-game winning streak, which ended last night, was the longest by an Orioles starter since Chris Tillman strung together nine in a row in 2016. His five-game road winning streak was the longest since Tillman’s eight in 2014.
Left-hander Ryan Yarbrough is 0-4 with a 5.82 ERA and 1.559 WHIP in eight games, including six starts. He hasn’t pitched for the Rays since June 30. They recalled him this morning.
Yarbrough worked four relief innings against the Orioles on May 20 and allowed one earned run and two total. He’s made 14 career appearances against the Orioles, including seven starts, and gone 5-2 with a 3.93 ERA and 1.214 WHIP in 73 1/3 innings.
Mancini is 11-for-27 (.407) with four doubles, three home runs and eight RBIs against Yarbrough.
