Orioles lineup vs. Tigers

The Orioles have scored five runs in five games against the Tigers this season, all losses, and are 1-for-26 with runners in scoring position.

To avoid another sweep tonight, they’ll count heavily on their youth and the handful of prospects who made it to the majors.

Gunnar Henderson is batting third tonight for the first time after making his debut last night as the leadoff hitter. He was the cleanup hitter on Sunday.

The hot hand is touching the higher spots in the order.

Henderson has moved to shortstop, with Jorge Mateo going to the bench.

Adley Rutschman is the designated hitter tonight. Terrin Vavra is batting fifth and playing second base. Kyle Stowers batting seventh and playing right field.

 The Orioles trail the Mariners by five games for the last wild card. They’ve lost 10 of their last 15.

Jordan Lyles faced the Tigers on May 13 and allowed four runs and six hits with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. He’s 0-2 with a 4.58 ERA and 1.271 WHIP in four career games (three starts) against Detroit.

Javier Báez is 1-for-16 with a triple against him. Miguel Cabrera is 4-for-9 with a double and home run.

Tigers right-hander Matt Manning, the ninth-overall pick in the 2016 draft out of Sheldon High School in Sacramento, has registered a 3.28 ERA and 1.127 WHIP in 11 starts and surrendered only five home runs in 57 2/3 innings. He made two starts in April and rejoined the Tigers in August.

Manning had a 5.80 ERA and 1.512 WHIP last year in 18 starts as a rookie. He started twice against the Orioles and allowed five earned runs (eight total) and 15 hits in 11 2/3 innings.

DJ Stewart hit two home runs on Aug. 12.
