Orioles preparing to make multiple roster moves

The Orioles end their road trip tonight in Philadelphia with a few more roster moves pending.

Infielders Jahmai Jones and Tyler Nevin have joined the club and could be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk. Manager Brandon Hyde said there's also a fresh arm available for the bullpen as a possible transaction.

Hyde said, "We have a bunch of things going on right now," which includes pitcher Chris Ellis' arm fatigue, infielder Ramón Urías' sore right upper leg and Anthony Santander tweaking his left hamstring last night in the 10th inning while chasing J.T. Realmuto's walk-off triple in the right field corner.

Jones was 9-for-55 (.164) with three doubles, three RBIs, two walks and 20 strikeouts in 18 games and 58 plate appearances before the Orioles optioned him. Nevin was 1-for-5 with a double in his first two major league games.

The lineup hasn't been posted.

As for the new reliever, the Orioles could add Joey Krehbiel after claiming him off waivers yesterday from the Rays. He wasn't assigned to Norfolk.

Krehbiel has tossed four scoreless innings with one hit allowed, three walks and two strikeouts in parts of two major league seasons. He made two appearances with the Diamondbacks in 2018 and didn't allow a run in three innings. The Rays used him in Saturday's game against the Tigers and he had a scoreless inning with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Orioles have used 59 different players this season and Brooks Kriske is waiting to make his debut with them.

Cedric Mullins will try again tonight to hit his 30th home run, and also avoid a review in New York.

Left-hander Keegan Akin is 2-10 with a 6.93 ERA and 1.606 WHIP in 23 games (16 starts). He's allowed four runs in four innings in two of his last three starts.

Akin has surrendered at least one home run in his last seven games.

Right-hander Zack Wheeler is 14-9 with a 2.83 ERA and 1.018 WHIP in 30 starts. He leads the National League with 231 strikeouts and the majors with 200 1/3 innings, and is tied for the NL lead with three complete games. His two shutouts are tied for most in the majors.

Bryce Harper set a career high with 39 doubles, surpassing his mark set in 2015.

The Rangers are starting right-handers Glenn Otto, Spencer Howard, Jordan Lyles and Dane Dunning in the four-game series at Camden Yards that begins Thursday night.

Hyde said Zac Lowther and Alexander Wells are starting the first two games and John Means will start Saturday or Sunday. Ellis will be slotted into the rotation if his arm improves.
