Orioles-Rangers game postponed due to rain

ARLINGTON, Texas - Today's game between the Orioles and Rangers has been postponed by rain and will be made up on Monday, June 20. The time will be determined later.

This is the Rangers' first rainout since May 29, 2013. They held the majors' longest overall streak without a home or road postponement, spanning 448 games.

It's already pouring this morning, the storm accompanied by thunder that provided a convenient wakeup call.

Both teams are off on Monday, but the Rangers would be forced to play 24 consecutive games and the union frowns upon it. Also, the forecast isn't any better.

orioles_new_birdhead.jpgThe Orioles are dealing with their second postponement, with a wintry mix and frigid temperatures ending their April 9 game against the Rays before it started. A makeup date wasn't announced, but it's expected to be part of a doubleheader during the series that runs June 24-26 at Camden Yards.

The team must return to Arlington on June 20, between home games against the Blue Jays and Padres. Nothing like a one-game series. The Rangers, returning from a three-city road trip, were supposed to be off before hosting a two-game series against the Reds.

The Orioles hadn't experienced a rainout on the road since July 4, 2014 at Fenway Park. That one also was postponed early, though I actually made it to the ballpark.

Mike Wright, today's scheduled starter, can't catch a break. His debut was pushed back twice, including the postponement in Baltimore, and he's unable to pitch again today.

No word yet on how the rotation is impacted. I'll update this entry later.
