Orioles waste chance, Blue Jays take advantage (updated)

The Orioles loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first inning today, and catcher Matt Wieters fouled out to Blue Jays catcher J.P. Acencibia. The Blue Jays loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the first inning, and Freddy Garcia hit Arencibia to force in a run. Wieters has only five hits in his last 34 at-bats, lowering his average to .232. He has three RBIs over his last 15 games since June 5. Garcia threw 32 pitches in the first, striking out Maicer Izturis to end the inning. He retired Melky Cabrera and Jose Bautista in ground balls before running into trouble. Garcia did not threw at Bautista, though his fastball is up to 89 mph, so he actually could raise a welt. Before his single in the first, Nate McLouth was 1-for-11 lifetime against Toronto's starter Josh Johnson. The single extended his hitting streak to seven games. He's 10-for-26 with three doubles, and his season average is up to .293. Chris Davis was intentionally walked with two outs and first base open, bringing Wieters to the plate. Speaking of slumps, Chris Dickerson ended his at 2-for-20 - including 12 strikeouts - with a leadoff single in the second inning. Dickerson is 5-for-8 lifetime vs. Johnson. The Orioles must decide whether to activate outfielder Nolan Reimold from the disabled list. The initial plan was to do so once the Orioles returned from their road trip. Reimold is 1-for-17 with seven strikeouts in five games with Double-A Bowie. He's still a bit rusty, but the hamstring feels fine. Update: The Orioles may be getting bad Freddy today. Garcia has allowed four runs and four hits, with two walks, in two innings. He's also hit a batter and thrown 50 pitches. Edwin Encarnacion's two-run homer increased Toronto's lead to 4-0 in the second. Garcia has allowed 16 homers in 52 2/3 innings this season. He's surrendered nine in his last four starts over 16 1/3 innings. That's not good.
