Orioles won't work out today (more ALDS game times)

The Orioles had to cancel their workout this afternoon at Yankee Stadium because of "travel complications," according to a press release from Major League Baseball. Did the train catch fire? Actually, power outages cause major issues for everyone, including the media. My train also was canceled this morning, but I was able to get on a later one. One reporter on the beat drove to White Marsh and took a bus. Another reporter caught a ride with colleagues in an SUV. Welcome to baseball's version of "Trains, Buses and SUVs," coming soon to a theater near you. The Orioles arrived in New York about five hours later than anticipated. On the plus side, they didn't have to stop in Jacksonville. Manager Buck Showalter and Game 3 starter Miguel Gonzalez will be available to reporters via a conference call later this afternoon. There's no media access at Yankee Stadium. Gonzalez is probably relieved, and I don't mean by the bullpen. He's not real comfortable giving interviews, though he's gotten much better over the course of the season. He tries hard, and he couldn't be nicer about it, but it's one of his least favorite tasks. I couldn't imagine him sitting in front of a microphone in a packed interview room while reporters, most of them unfamiliar to him, fired off questions for 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, he's got nerves of steel on the mound. Absolutely nothing rattles this rookie. He's much calmer on the Yankee Stadium mound than inside an interview room. I've been asked about the Game 4 starter. It's still TBA, with Chris Tillman and Joe Saunders the most obvious choices. I've been assuming that Tillman will get the ball, but it's not official. As for Nick Markakis, his timetable hasn't changed. The pins came out of his left thumb yesterday. He told reporters last week in St. Petersburg that he probably would need two more weeks once that procedure was done. NOTE: Game 4 of the American League Division Series on Thursday is scheduled for 7:37 p.m. but will be changed to 8:37 p.m. if the Tigers-Athletics series has ended. Game 5 on Friday would start at 5:07 p.m., with a possible change to 7:07 p.m. if the Nationals-Cardinals series has ended.
