J.J. Hardy isn't in the Orioles lineup for tonight's series opener against the Reds at Camden Yards.
Hardy is day-to-day after leaving yesterday's game with a lower back spasm.
Ryan Flaherty is starting at shortstop tonight. Alejandro De Aza is in left field.
Nick Markakis is serving as the designated hitter tonight, with Nelson Cruz in right field.
The Orioles made their roster moves official, recalling relievers Ryan Webb and T.J. McFarland and catcher Steve Clevenger, and selecting the contract of outfielder Quintin Berry. They moved third baseman Manny Machado to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Berry on the 40-man roster.
Berry is wearing No. 34.
The Orioles are hosting the Reds for the second time in a regular season series. Pretty sure it also happened in the 1970 World Series. Different ballpark, though.
The Orioles took two of three from the Reds in 2011 despite being outscored 19-17. Derek Lee hit a walk-off home run in the opener, but he won't be any help this week. Brian Matusz gave up six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings in a 10-5 loss. Lee, Luke Scott and Mark Reynolds homered in the third game. Again, no help this week.
Bud Norris is 0-3 with a 5.11 ERA in three career starts against the Reds. Skip Schumaker is 3-for-22 (.136) aganst him. Brandon Phillips is 5-for-15 (.333) with a home run.
