Orioles get rare look at Lincecum

Not only is two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum making only his second career start against the Orioles today to close out the season's first half, he's got to reference back to June 16, 2010 for reminders of their first encounter.

As you can imagine, the roster has undergone a few changes.

Lincecum was pitching for the Giants at AT&T Park. Jeremy Guthrie was starting for the Orioles, who lost 6-3.

Lincecum allowed two runs and eight hits in six innings and Guthrie allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings. Relievers Jason Berken, Will Ohman and Alfredo Simon also pitched for the Orioles.

You know how much I enjoy perusing old lineups. The Orioles batted Corey Patterson first and started him in left field. Miguel Tejada batted second and played third base. Our friend Luke Scott was the first baseman and cleanup hitter. Julio Lugo was the second baseman, Cesar Izturis the third baseman and Craig Tatum the catcher. Scott Moore entered the game as a pinch-hitter.

The season began with Garrett Atkins at first base and Michael Gonzalez as the closer. Juan Samuel replaced manager Dave Trembley on June 4.

The Orioles finished 66-96 and in fifth place.

Lincecum is 1-2 with a 7.50 ERA and 2.111 WHIP in four starts and 18 innings since joining the Angels. He's gone six, three, 4 1/3 and 4 2/3 innings. In his last three starts, he's allowed 14 runs and 25 hits over 12 innings.

Right-handers are hitting .414 against Lincecum and left-handers are hitting .340. For his career, it's .244 and .230.

The current Orioles are 10-for-50 against Lincecum, but that includes a 1-for-12 from Ubaldo Jimenez. Mark Trumbo is 3-for-8 with a double and home run and Pedro Alvarez is 3-for-10 with a double.

The Orioles attended Lincecum's workout before he signed with the Angels. There was definite interest, but executive vice president Dan Duquette correctly predicted that the right-hander would sign with a West Coast team.

Chris Tillman gets one more start today before the break. He was 6-7 with a 5.40 ERA and 1.556 WHIP in 17 starts and 90 innings in the first half in 2015. He's 11-2 with a 3.55 ERA and 1.232 WHIP this year in 18 starts and 106 1/3 innings.

Still not able to make his second All-Star team.

Tillman allowed one run and five hits over seven innings in his last start, the exact same as his June 14 outing in Boston. In the three starts in between, he allowed a combined 14 runs and 21 hits over 14 2/3 innings.

Tillman is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in four career starts versus the Angels, with seven earned runs (10 total) in 25 2/3 innings. He's surrendered only two home runs.

Yunel Escobar is 7-for-22 and Albert Pujols is 3-for-9 with two doubles.
