P-Nats owner's letter to fans not encouraging for Prince William County return

For many years, the Single-A Potomac Nationals and owner Art Silber have worked and hoped to build a new stadium to replace the aging and outdated Pfitzner Stadium in Prince William County.

Yesterday, Silber released a statement which said he is considering moving the team to a location outside of the county after a potential stadium deal at the Potomac Town Center could not be finalized.

Silber's letter to fans wasn't specific as to new sites, but sites in Alexandria and even as far away as North Carolina have been mentioned in the past. He confirmed the club will play at Pfitzner Stadium at least through the 2018 season.

One opponent of the stadium deal in Prince William County, County Supervisor Pete Candland, a Gainesville Republican, believes Silber isn't putting up enough of his own money and disagrees with the club's recent profits, which believes are around only $9,000 a year. Candland thinks too much of the financial burden for the stadium project would land on the taxpayers.
