Pearce at second base tonight (Gausman update)

With Ryan Flaherty injured, Steve Pearce is starting at second base tonight for the Orioles.

No official announcement yet on Flaherty going on the disabled list.

Pearce is working out early at second base with infield instructor and third base coach Bobby Dickerson.

Travis Snider is starting in left field against Blue Jays left-hander Mark Buehrle. As I wrote this morning, Snider is 5-for-9 against him.

machado-white-sidebar-swing.jpgMachado, 22, is the youngest player in the majors to lead off a game with a homer this season, according to Elias. He did it last night in a 5-2 win.

Since the franchise moved to Baltimore in 1954, the only other Orioles player hit a leadoff homer at age 22 or younger is Paul Blair, who did it twice as a 21-year-old rookie in 1965.

Since April 29, the Orioles bullpen leads the majors with a 1.27 ERA (four earned runs in 28 1/3 innings) and .140 opponents batting average.

Update: The MRI on Kevin Gausman's right shoulder came back clean, and the right-hander will remain with the Orioles for now. He hopes to start throwing later this week.
