Reimold set to begin rehab assignment, more Donaldson drama (free baseball!)

Outfielder Nolan Reimold is set to begin his injury rehab assignment Tuesday at Double-A Bowie. Reimold is flying to Baltimore on Monday. He's been playing left field at extended spring training. The Baysox are home against New Hampshire. They will remain at Prince George's Stadium through June 15. The Orioles transferred Reimold to the 60-day disabled list on April 7. He's been recovering from corrective surgery to fuse two vertebrae in his neck. Wei-Yin Chen retired 10 straight Oakland batters tonight before hitting Josh Donaldson, who was involved in a minor skirmish with third baseman Manny Machado in the third inning. Chen came inside on Donaldson in the sixth, then hit him on the left elbow. Donaldson immediately spun toward the Oakland dugout and chucked his elbow pad in anger before going to first base without incident. Plate umpire Larry Vanover didn't appear to issue a warning, but he walked the ball back to Chen. With Donaldson looking into the Athletics dugout, it's fair to wonder whether he was hinting at a retaliation. However, A's left-hander Tommy Milone didn't hit or brush back anyone in the bottom of the inning. Chen has now hit a grand total of one batter in 69 1/3 innings this season. I honestly saw nothing wrong with Donaldson's tag in the third. Machado was trying to avoid it, was off balance and fell backward when Donaldson reached for him. Machado already got his revenge with a home run in the fifth inning that broke a 2-2 tie. Chris Davis knotted the score in the fourth with a leadoff homer, his ninth of the season. Chen has retired 14 of the last 16 batters. He's thrown 93 pitches through the sixth, allowing two runs and four hits, and Ryan Webb is warming in the bullpen. Update: Chen turned in his fourth quality start in 12 outings. He allowed two runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings, with no walks, four strikeouts, two home runs and a hit batter. He threw 102 pitches, 64 strikes. Chen retired 14 of the last 16 batters he faced. Ryan Webb got the last two outs in the seventh and Darren O'Day is working the eighth with the Orioles clinging to a 3-2 lead. Tonight's attendance: 28,076. Update II: Yoenis Cespedes doubled off O'Day with two outs in the eighth to score Coco Crisp and tie the game 3-3. O'Day had allowed only two runs in 24 innings before tonight, on solo homers by Boston's Mike Napoli on April 21 and Cleveland's Lonnie Chisenhall on May 22. Update III: A's reliever Luke Gregerson struck out pinch-hitter Delmon Young with J.J. Hardy on second base and two outs in the ninth inning. We're going to extras. Young was 4-for-8 as a pinch-hitter this season. Zach Britton retired Oakland in order in the top of the ninth and he's back out for the 10th after throwing eight pitches. Britton's older brother, Buck, was pitching for Triple-A Norfolk at the exact same time that Zach worked the ninth. It's more interesting when you consider that Buck is an infielder. The Tides were down 11-4 in the eighth.
