Reimold talks about Guerrero signing

I found Nolan Reimold in the usual place this winter, working out with former Orioles outfielder Brady Anderson in California. He'll stay a little longer before reporting to spring training in Sarasota. Reimold knows the addition of Vladimir Guerrero could have a direct impact on him, "but I guess the full extent of how it impacts me remains to be seen," he said earlier today in a brief phone conversation. "There will always be good players in the major leagues and there will always be competition. And it's a business. If they can sign a very good player like Vladimir Guerrero, they're going to do it," Reimold added. "It's just one of those things where you do what you can do, and I plan on making it a hard decision to send me down to Norfolk. I'm going to try to make the team and I want to be on the team. "I've been working out hard this offseason so I can be on the team. I'll just let the chips fall where they may." Reimold could fall all the way to the International League. He could end up as the Orioles' fourth outfielder. He could be traded. "There are still a lot of things that can happen from now until the start of the season," he said. "I'm just taking care of business, taking care of what I've got to do to get ready for the season and be prepared to play when the season starts. Anderson has predicted that Reimold will have a big season. We know that he'll be healthier than last spring, and in better condition. "I've been out here working out and doing things outside, sprinting a lot, and I'm a lot stronger than I was last year," Reimold said. "I'm in a lot better shape physically than I was last year. And I'm working on my swing, too. I've got a few little different things going on with that. I'm pretty confident it's going to work out well for me during the season. "I'll be prepared for this year and I'm looking forward to having a good year and forgetting about last year." Of all the stories that could unfold in Sarasota, Reimold's might rank among the most interesting. Slow to recover from Achilles surgery, he played in only 39 games with the Orioles last season, batting .207 with three homers and 14 RBIs. He spent most of the summer with Norfolk, batting .249 with 10 homers, 37 RBIs and a .738 OPS in 94 games. Will he rejoin the Tides in April? He's doing everything he can to avoid it.
