Rendon's ankle "fine" after hit-by-pitch; goes 3-for-4 with two doubles, RBI

Nationals prospect Anthony Rendon had one of his best all-around games of his rehab stint Thursday, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles and an RBI in short-season Single-A Auburn's 11-3 rout of the Staten Island Yankees. Rendon played third base until there were two outs in the bottom of the seventh, replaced by Khayyan Norfork. Rendon was hit by a pitch on his surgically repaired left ankle in Wednesday night's game, and left the contest early for precautionary reasons. Despite mild swelling, Rendon was back in the lineup for Thursday morning's game and reacted well at the plate and in the field with no complications, according to manager Gary Cathcart. In a text, Cathcart said Rendon "ran the bases a bunch today, so I think he will be fine. Just some swelling where he got hit." Rendon is batting .368 for the Doubledays. Rendon turned a double play in the field with Auburn second baseman Tony Renda and played well defensively. "He looks fine," Cathcart reported. "He has had to make a variety of plays the last few days." The Doubledays erupted for the 11 runs, with seven extra-base hits on 18 total base knocks. First baseman Estarlin Martinez collected three hits himself, crushing a three-run shot and finishing with five RBIs. Right fielder Wander Ramos had two hits, including a double and a pair of RBIs. Ramos has 11 doubles on the season.
