Report: Ohlendorf will start Saturday for Nationals

Left-hander Danny Rosenbaum and right-hander Ross Ohlendorf are two solid candidates to take Stephen Strasburg's Saturday start. Strasburg will be placed on the disabled list Wednesday, retroactive to June . He would be eligible to come off the list June 16. The Nationals said they will call up a starter for Saturday, and could even add a reliever for the next three days, but that would mean the reliever would not be available until at least Thursday. The 25-year-old Rosenbaum is a former high Single-A Potomac Pitcher of the Year and was a Rule 5 draft selection by the Colorado Rockies in December, but later returned to the Nationals. He was solid June 3, going six innings, allowing two earned runs with two walks and five strikeouts at Pawtucket. Overall, Rosenbaum is 5-3 with a 3.48 ERA in 11 starts and has won three of his last four decisions. Rosenbaum is not overpowering, but is very deceptive and has quality secondary stuff. He has continually improved his changeup. The 30-year-old Ohlendorf has been in the majors parts of six seasons (2007-2012) with the Yankees, Pirates and Padres. The right-hander was 18-32 with a 5.10 ERA in 108 games (73 starts) in 441 1/3 innings in the majors. On January 10, Ohlendorf signed a minor league contract with the Nationals. He has been amazing the last two starts for Triple-A Syracuse, going 12 1/3 innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out an astounding 22 hitters. He is 4-5 with a 4.32 ERA in 11 starts this season and it appears his last start was skipped, which might have been to give the Nationals an option for Thursday, which was Strasburg's original next start date. Update: Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports Ohlendorf will get the start Saturday.
