Reynolds vs. the Red Sox

BOSTON - No matter the circumstances tonight, whether the bases are empty or filled, the Red Sox's catcher might want to hold up four fingers as Mark Reynolds strolls to the plate. He might want to do it while Reynolds is on deck, just to practice. In nine games against the Red Sox this season, Reynolds is batting .433/.550/.1.067 with four doubles, five homers, 14 RBIs and eight walks. In six games at Fenway Park, Reynolds is batting .421/.571/.895 with three doubles, two homers, seven RBIs and seven walks. In 33 career games against the Red Sox, Reynolds is batting .262/.367/.598 with nine doubles, nine homers and 24 RBIs. The last time they saw Reynolds, he went 5-for-11 with a double, three homers and seven RBIs in an Aug. 14-16 series at Camden Yards. Perhaps being in Boston again will heat up Reynolds' bat. He's 8-for-47 in his last 12 games, including an 0-for-7 night in the 18-inning marathon against the Mariners, and hasn't homered since Sept. 8. Reynolds is 3-for-10 with a home run against Jon Lester, who starts tonight for the Red Sox. He's been warned.
