Shuck, 32, played nearly 500 games in the majors and came to the Nats in February after playing in 27 games for the Pirates last season. He was trying to reinvent himself as a two-way player, and had made 14 pitching appearances last year at Triple-A Indianapolis and two relief appearances in spring training with the Nats.
Ward, 25, was the highest draft pick to be released. He had battled injuries for a few seasons, but still had demonstrated a power bat.
Sardiñas, 27, played for the Orioles as recently as 2018 and was re-signed by the Nats in January 2020.
Self, 30, pitched in 318 minor league games for the Nats and played in the Arizona Fall League in 2014.
Keller, 28, was a 2016 mid-season Carolina League All-Star, playing in more than 500 minor league games.
Mapes, 28, won 33 games in 119 minor league appearances.
Jones, 28, was signed by the Nats in 2018 and racked up 625 minor league games.
