I just spoke to Luke Scott over the phone from the parking lot of an Eldersburg grocery store. As always, timing is everything.
It's really not safe for me to leave the house.
I do appreciate that Scott took the time to call me back. He was at a gym in California when I texted him earlier today about agreeing to terms on a contract for the 2011 season and avoiding arbitration.
"I'm very happy with the deal. Its a fair deal, it's a good deal for both sides and I'm glad we got it done," he said.
"I'm a pretty simple guy. I don't demand that people roll out the red carpet for me. I just expect to be treated fairly."
Scott, who's projected to be the regular left fielder this season, said he's ready for spring training after putting his body through another series of rigorous workouts in Oklahoma.
"I've been training really hard," he said. "I'm excited about the new year and how the offseason transpired. I think it's going to be a fun spring training, with a lot of excitement. But there's also a lot of work to do."
At least he no longer has the threat of arbitration hanging over his head.
