Showalter on Yoon: "He's going to be fine"

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Orioles manager Buck Showalter didn't have much to say about pitcher Suk-min Yoon, who has returned to Korea and apparently won't come back to Sarasota.

Yoon has two years left on his contract and is unhappy that he wasn't invited to major league camp after the Orioles removed him from the 40-man roster in August.

Asked for his reaction, Showalter said, "I can't. We've all got a reaction to everything."

yoon-looking-spring-training-sidebar.jpgTold that Yoon is disappointed about not being in camp, Showalter replied, "That wasn't the reason. I'm sure he was. Pitch better.

"He's going to be fine. Wish him well. I don't know if we have first dibs on him or not if he comes back. I imagine we will.

"It worked out well for him. And us, for that matter."

Brian Matusz, who received a cortisone injection in his right shoulder on Monday due to an AC joint sprain, will work one inning instead of two in tonight's split-squad game against the Blue Jays. He's tentatively scheduled to start March 14 against the Rays in Sarasota.

Showalter said this will be the last time that Wei-Yin Chen and Miguel Gonzalez pitch on the same day. The Orioles have tweaked their pitching schedule.

The Orioles are setting up at least three B games for their starters so they can get a sufficient amount of innings. Opponents will include teams from Canada and Puerto Rico.

"All those games take place before the minor league games start," Showalter said.

Knuckleballer Steven Wright is starting for the Red Sox Saturday in Sarasota. Former Orioles farmhand Eduardo Rodriguez, dealt to Boston for left-hander Andrew Miller last summer, also is making the trip.

Bud Norris is starting for the Orioles.

I'm racing back to Sarasota and will update the first game when I get set up.
