Simon talks about being placed on waivers

SARASOTA, Fla. - Pitcher Alfredo Simon has left the Ed Smith Stadium complex after working out this morning. His future is still in limbo. Simon confirmed this morning that he's been placed on waivers. His agent passed along the news last night. "I mean, I know the situation here is a little tough," Simon said. "They feel like they don't have any spots for me. I understand that. Just see what's going to happen if another place is going to pick me or not." Simon said his agent believes he'll be claimed. "They told me before something about a trade or whatever," he said. "I don't really know what's going on. Everybody was like, 'It's like they are releasing you.' So now I have to wait like three days. "I'm not really surprised. I didn't think they were going to put me on waivers, but I understand they have a lot of pitching and the guys they need to put in the rotation and everything. So I just wait for the next three days and see what's going to happen." Simon was slowed in camp by a groin injury and gave up six runs and six hits in two innings in his final appearance on Wednesday against the Blue Jays. "I don't really worry about that," he said of the injury. "It's been getting better and I feel really good to pitch. I'm good right now. I just try to be healthy and see what happens. You never know what's going to happen, so I have to wait and see what's better for me. "I mean, I understand the situation. That's the business and I have to handle whatever is going on. I have to handle it because I've been in that situation before. It's nothing new for me."
