Solis pumped for first start of season for Hagerstown

After battling through a couple of injuries that extended his spring training into late May, Nationals 2010 second-round selection left-hander Sammy Solis is ready to make his season debut today for the Single-A Hagerstown Suns at the Kannapolis Intimidators.
Solis pitched 5 1/3 innings last week in Viera, Fla., throwing 84 pitches. He anticipates a 90-pitch cap today.
"My arm feels strong," Solis said. "Florida was great. I got my work in that I needed to get done. I am excited to be here and get started."
Solis suffered a quadriceps injury late in spring camp while running, then battled a groin injury. Fortunately, he has recovered from both setbacks and has come back ready to pitch.
Solis throws a fastball between 91 and 93 mph, a knuckle-curve, a changeup and a cutter he developed during spring training.
"Whether I am in Hagerstown or (Double-A) Harrisburg at the end of the year, it doesn't matter," Solis said. "I am glad I am pitching in real games and I get a chance to show what I can do."
